The Prattsburgh Central School District is committed to the development and establishment of a quality, equitable and cost-effective computer network. The purpose of the network shall be for the advancement and promotion of learning and teaching , and administration/management. The system will significantly enhance educational experiences through various network applications. The Superintendent, with the recommendations of the Technology Committee, will establish rules and regulations governing the use and security of the district's computer network. Failure to comply with district policy and regulations for the use of the network may result in the suspension and/or revocation of computer access. Additionally, student violations may result in discipline up to and including suspension. Staff violations may also result in disciplinary actions. Technology Policy - Usage and Security Classroom and lab computers are to be used by staff and students for educational/constructive purposes only. Students will be given a computer pass. It will be color-coded and will include: student's name, room the computer is in, the name of the program to be used, and the assignment or project the student is working on. Students in grades 1-6 must have passwords. The password will either be assigned by the teacher or approved by the teacher. The teacher and the Elementary Computer Lab Assistant will have a master list of student's passwords. In September, passwords will be given to students' new teachers. (Kindergarten students will not have passwords.) Students in grades 7-12 are required to maintain their own password. Password responsibility will be part of student orientation in the fall. Any person using the computer will be required to sign the Rules and Code of Ethics form. Teachers in grades 1-6 will explain the policy in terms their students can understand before the students sign the form. Internet Adult Supervisor's Responsibilities 1. Adult supervisor must be certain the student displays the Internet Driver's License. Student obtains this by taking the Internet course with a trained teacher and passing a written and hands-on exam. (Students are now attending Internet classes as research is needed during specific class time.) 2. Adult Supervisor must be certain student displays Internet Search Request form from the teacher giving the research assignment. If the assignment is from the Internet Adult Supervisor, a form must be filled out by the supervising adult. The subject must be a respected topic. Students are NOT to research rock groups as they are inappropriate. 3.ADULT SUPERVISOR MUST ALWAYS BE PRESENT AND ACTIVELY SUPERVISING IN ROOM WHILE STUDENTS ARE IN THE INTERNET. NO EXCEPTIONS. YOU ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE!!!! 4. Student must ask permission before printing. Adult supervisor must scan for appropriateness of the article. If on a color printer and printing a graphic, the picture must be relative to the topic of the research paper and have a purpose related to the report. Personal printing of graphics are not permitted. 5. If adult supervisor gave permission to print, the printed material must be approved again before leaving the room.
